Basically, a diminished chord is a stack of minor 3rds. For those of you who have no idea what that means, you can work out a dim chord by starting at the root, counting up 3 semitones, playing that note, then count up another 3 semitones, and playing that note too. read more...

Sorry just after sending in my question about the chords to play along with my melody line, I saw in an old post the answer I was looking for. But, I do want to say that your forum is very helpful in itself as it answers a lot of questions itself. I just got into the manual and love doing the scale exercises, which I already knew my 12 scales but I love the exercises you have us doing, thanks so much. Love the videos also, please keep them coming.

Playing by Ear
Reply #17 on : Fri May 27, 2011, 10:26:36
I play by ear since I was 3 y.o.with church hymns to begin with. Harmony comes naturally to me though it may be simple chords and not as complex as the professionals. I enjoy playing that way instead of going through the song books which I find encumbering. I got to about Grade 2 in piano lessons and stopped.
How do you suggest I progress and hone in my ability to improve and still enjoy playing.

Book and CD
Reply #15 on : Tue April 19, 2011, 05:17:25
Hi Terence, I have just received your book/cd and have in the first 1 hour have improved my playing just by reading page 16 alone. You call it "Right hand rhythms" but the syncopation with the left hand has made the real difference for me so far. I was over complicating everything where as the simple rhythms I somehow bypassed. Thanks for putting me straight, can't wait to explore the rest of the book, Kevin

Hi,
Just wanted to say that the manual is fantastic and looking forward to the dvds. I just wanted to say that it would be good to have some jazz improv in the dvds too.

Hi.

Quick question, when you find that there are several bars of one chord, what do you to to make it sound interesting? For instance, in Brenton Brown's Praise is Rising in the key of G, a lot of the verse is simply a G chord.

By the way, your manual is great and has helped me vastly improve. :-)
