Minor 7th chords make your minor chords sound brighter and more contemporary and many of you may already know how to play them. In this piano tutorial, I’ll show you an effective way to construct minor 7th chords and how to easily modify them further to produce more complex results for your minor chords.
Using simple techniques that even children can understand, you’ll soon be replacing many of your minor triads with m7 and m7add11 (that chord symbol looks a lot harder than it really is!). We’ve been focusing on major chord modifications in the last few lessons and those techniques can carry over to the minor chord, completing our set of basic modifications for both major and minor triads.
As I did in the previous lesson, this lesson ends with some free playing over 3 progressions in 3 different keys. For you note readers, some of it is scored on staves so that you can study how everything we’ve learnt starts to fit together.
