How Much to Practise?

In 1998 I started teaching piano improvisation to a handful of students. Word got out, and 300 students later, Quaverbox is now a leading online resource of piano improvisation and the Quaverbox Manual has made its way into the bookstores and libraries of universities. We've also grown into a small network of teachers operating in the area of Melbourne and North Brisbane, Australia, and I'm always looking out for more piano improvisation teachers to join the cause!

I'm most proud of the fact that we genuinely care and relate to our students and subscribers. If you need improv help, send me an email, and I will respond as promptly as I can.  And that's why quaverbox.com is one of the most popular improvisation websites in the world! Subscribe today and join the growing list of Quaverbox improvisers!

I began learning classical piano at an early age and, sad to say, I hated it! I loathed scales and theory exams so I dabbled in improv and jazz; the complexity of the jazz sound was awe inspiring and I spent years experimenting with chords and studied jazz texts.

After a decade of classical training and another twenty years of improvisation, I've gleaned the best of both musical forms and now teach improv full-time with around 70 students. With a strong background in church piano playing, I also have the experience and the passion to teach improvisation for worship purposes.

The best thing about teaching is making a positive difference in the lives of my students. It's not just about the notes. It's about building relationships and realising the potential within each person, and having the most fun getting them there!

Music helps us live our lives to the fullest, and that's what I teach.
